I’ve noticed some of my foreign clients worrying about this before arriving in China. So here is the only important rule you need to know about accommodation: Chinese law requires all foreign visitors to register their accommodation.
Here is what you need to do based on where you are staying:
- Staying in a Hotel? — No need to worry!
If you booked a hotel, you don’t need to do anything. The hotel front desk will automatically do the registration for you when you check in. - Staying with Friends or in an Airbnb? — Action required!
If you are staying at a private home, a friend’s apartment, or an Airbnb, you or your host must register online within 24 hours of your arrival.
How to register online? It’s quite easy:
• Option 1: Scan the QR code on the official notice (like the poster at the airport).
• Option 2: Visit this official website: https://gaj.sh.gov.cn/crj/24hr
Then: Fill in your passport and accommodation details.
If you have any problems filling it out, just call the 12367 Immigration Service Hotline. They have English service!
Enjoy your trip!
